I must admit, I’m a bit of a snacker. I’m not one to eat an apple or carrot sticks for morning tea. I got a bit excited when a friend told me that Macro Wholefoods Market had released some vegan lentil chips. I’ll preface this review by saying that I absolutely love lentils, but a friend who doesn’t particularly like them said that there is a bit of an after taste of lentils after having his.
A few bits of information first before I mention what I thought of them: They are sold at Woolworths for $4.50 ($4.17/100g) in the health food aisle. Each pack has 6 smaller packets, which are a good size for packing into kids’ lunch bags. They come in three flavours; beetroot, carrot and pumpkin (which is the order I liked them in). The Health Star Ratings for the first two are 4.0, and the pumpkin is 4.5 (it has a lower sugar and sodium content compared to the other two).
The chips are 75-77% made from Australian ingredients, and they do not contain any artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. As well as being dairy free, they are also gluten free. You may bring back the packaging to any Woolworths for recycling. Everything sound good so far?
My favourite was the beetroot. I do love beetroot and I found that it was the most flavoursome of the three, and the carrot flavour was a close second. I did find that the pumpkin was a little bland for my taste; this is possibly because of the lower sugar and sodium content.
Overall, I enjoyed these lentil chips and will certainly be hiding them in my pantry for “emergencies” when I really need a snack!
Take care,
Miko xx
